In a world that is rapidly becoming more and more complex, for me, photography becomes a universal language; something that connects us all irrespective of ethnicity and circumstance. Photography is like meditation for me. I find peace behind the lens, looking at all the stories through the camera, finding pockets of joy in this increasingly fractured world. This is always a reminder for me that there is always hope.

As a self-taught photographer, I started out reading about the rules of photography online, and tried to emulate the images I saw of other photographers. While I had begun my journey using a basic DSLR cameras, I quickly grew to appreciate the unobtrusiveness and accessibility of the mobile camera. It was somewhere online that I stumbled upon an article that mentioned olloclip® lenses. Always eager to try new things, I managed to get my hands on a couple of lenses and the rest as they say is history.

The fluidity of the medium always appeals to me; no two photographs can be the same. There are hundreds of little variations that can happen in the same frame, all within a second. I love capturing the changing light and textures, as well as documenting the lives of people.

Photography lets me meet people, push my own boundaries, and garner experiences that are profound and sometimes even life altering. It becomes a stress-buster from the humdrum of everyday life.

This art seeps into other aspects of my life as well; I am in the textile business, and manufacture specialty yarns. All the photographs of yarn samples I send to clients, or the ones we post on our website have been meticulously photographed, often times using the olloclip® Macro Lens. The photographs are available at www.fancyarns.co.in

As someone who started out on this photography journey all alone, I believe in simplifying the process of it, and remembering to pursue art instead of getting trapped only in the monetary aspect of it.

To this effect, I also pass on my learnings to a small group of enthusiastic and like-minded photographers online, free of charge. As they say, knowledge and happiness expand upon spreading.

Pay It Forward

I would like to recognize my daughter, Vedha Poddar, a proposed filmmaker who initially taught me the basic principals of photography. My wife, Preeti Poddar, and my son Raghav Poddar, who offer their valuable opinions for each one of my click pics.
